Age 7-12

  • Garden Painting –With images of the garden students learn to draw in a composition and collage a garden by drawing, painting and print-making.  Using the sketchbook in building observational  skills, composing the garden onto a canvas and  layering the paint while understanding color theory.
  • Animal Portraits Students will learn to draw and paint the structure of a portrait, looking at artists from art history in studying light and shadow to describe form.
  • Sculpture, Pots and Animals Working with clay gives students a chance to  communicate, and problem-solve in a group setting. Instruction guides students in a supportive  environment in building their piece in an ancient  pot design, and in the Egyptian clay relief. Drawing inspiration from a favorite fantasy animal working into the mass and detail.
  • ART&STRINGS- With Instructor Jennifer Tzeng teaching Violin – Students will enhance their collaborative playing,  artistic technique, and overall musicianship skills,  focusing on improving rhythmic coordination in music. Performing songs from the Wonka movie.
  • ART&PIANO with Instructor Julie Kothman – Students learn to play “Pure Imagination” (instrumental piano from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory) using the key and melody of the song to recreate a tune to a layered painting in a stop motion film that reflect the subtle nuances of classical music,  students will build on innovative and abstract thinking to invent a film with a brushstroke method of modern art from their imagination.
  • Expression and Painting  – Exploring the parallels of color, texture, shape in creating form, students play with the flavors of tone in notation to translate from varying moods of classical to jazz music. Students will learn to listen as an essential tool within the  scope of an auditory visual language. With the techniques of an ancient Japanese paint brush students begin to create with a sense of balance, soft and hard strokes in expressively building a landscape and composing values light to dark in creating perspective, depth, and to enhance their piece with color.
  • Art & Piano – Focus is based on the fundamentals in music, drawing, and painting. Students will learn through pitch, rhythm, cord, and performance  recognition and engage in a comprehensive  workshop based on music and sound. Translating sound into a  landscape painting encourages abstract thinking skills in problem solving, and innovative ideation in creating their original artwork.

Age 11-Teen

  • Printmaking – exploring media in silk screen & linocut block printing. Drawing designs from nature and portrait drawing.
  • Acrylic Painting Techniques, Surrealism. Using acrylic paint to explore realistic techniques students will look at different surreal artists such as Rene Magritte and Salvador Dali to invent their own surreal ideas building with preliminary drawings into a full painting.
  • Clothed Figure Drawing & Anime –The human figure is the proverbial backbone of many visual art practices. Analyze how weight, volume and perspective shift in different positions. Combine anatomy and different stylistic approaches to bring expression into your figure drawings. Each exercise will demystify the human form and give you the freedom to depict it in any position. For students looking to add to a portfolio and interested in fine art or illustration.
  • Still life Drawing and Painting – Through a charcoal drawing students explore symbolism using objects while learning a foundational project in form and perspective. How to start creating narrative-driven composition, followed by an introduction to oil painting in completing a final painting.
